COVID-19 and change of plans

A few months ago, before this whole COVID-19 thing began, I had all these great life plans. I wanted to let everyone know what I was about and I wanted to indulge in a curated food discovery journey.

COVID-19 change of plans
I had this whole plan of wearing only comfortable bras.

The girls reading this will relate.

How are we supposed to wrap up COVID-19 with uncomfortable underwear?

That’s right, we can’t.

Some stuff I collected through the years either doesn’t fit my body, doesn’t fit my real life, or is uncomfortable and always discarded for a better alternative.

Not that many places we currently visit would require a bra. Last week I barely wore a bra to go to the supermarket.

If only limited activities are allowed, why should I even care about what's not necessary? And why should I do boring things like going to the supermarket? This puts things into perspective.

This year, I am all about being selective and decadent meals covered in cheese deserve my care.

And my fork!

Which, if you didn’t know, is the Italian equivalent of a fellowship oath.

A nourishing treat, also known as a dietary cheat, is something I am willing to plan accurately and wait for patiently. Especially when cheese is involved.

I had this big plan of finding the most exclusive places where they cooked awesome things with cheese. Beware, not just any cheese! I am talking ‘real cheese’. The baseline I have placed upon myself, this year, amounts to 25 cheeses or more.

Trust me, this is Melbourne, there may be killer spiders in Australia but streets are paved with cheese. And what do you get when you mix cooks of European descent with an audience like me? You get 29 cheeses gnocchi, or 150 cheeses pizza.

It's true! Look them up!

Now, that’s what I consider a fair amount of cheese that’s worth my attention.

Unfortunately, that was before COVID-19 lockdown, and when everyone was running to hoard toilet paper, I was putting my cheesy plans on hold.

There has been, however, a major plot twist nobody saw coming! With uncertain times, cafes became more and more creative and I just found myself subscribed to a monthly curated cheese box from a trusted chef friend of mine.

COVID-19 may have made me change plans, but it hasn't broken my spirit.

I am still refusing to wear uncomfortable underwear because I owe it to myself to feel empowered in my daily essential-worker life and I just received a nice little stash of cheeses that I can consume on the couch whenever I want, with or without underwear. And if this doesn't tell people what I am about, I don't know what will.

For now, I will patiently wait, caring about the important things and when things go back to normal I expect there will be cheese, and lots of it.

Then, I would even wear a bra for cheese.
